Paoay Church
While being uncertain if the tropical storm will hit the Northern part of Luzon, at 10 in the morning, the sky is getting clearer and the sun has shown; we hurried pack our bags and head our way to the Paoay Church for the first stop of our Northern adventure.
A two hours of bus ridding from Vigan, Ilocos Sur when it should be 57minutes to travel 68.7 km more or less by car according to google map.
FACTS & HISTORY ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA.ORG:
Paoay Church is the Roman Catholic parish church of the municipality of Paoay, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines. Completed in 1710, the church is famous for its distinct architecture highlighted by the enormous buttresses on the sides and back of the building. In 1993, the church was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one best examples of the Baroque Churches of the Philippines.

Paoay church is prime example of Earthquake Baroque architecture, which is the Philippine interpretation of the European Baroque adapted to the seismic condition of the country. Destructive earthquakes are common and have destroyed earlier churches all throughout the country. Aside from Baroque, the church facade also exudes Javanese architecture reminiscent of Borobudur of Java.
BELL TOWER

Tripperspot’s Note
Going to this place would be better if you go straight to Laog City and rent a tricycle going back to Paoay, than to get rentable transportation within the vicinity. I am sure you don’t want to be surprised with extra money charges every time you move from one place to another…
Rentable tricycles are located at the gasoline station near Laog Plaza and Mc Donalds with rental amounting to 300pesos (back and forth) that include the Sand Dunes and Fort Ilocandia. There are also Vans and rentable cars in Vigan, Ilocos Sur for the Northern Tour.

Excellent photographs; especially the shots from close to the base.

Hi Tripperspot. Thank you for following my blog. I love your photography. I have been to Borobudur and I did enjoy the parallel you drew between the Paoay Church and Borobudur.

Hi Tripperspot. Thanks for visiting and following my blog. You have some amazing photography here, and have traveled to some incredible places. I like traveling as well, but don’t seem to get out nearly enough. Maybe someday that will change.

Hello Tripperspot!
Thanks for following me. You have some wonderful pictures on here, and I enjoyed your post about why we travel.
I think something great about the internet is that ordinary people, not just National Geographic or travel writers, can show others places in the world that not everyone will ever get to see, especially on such an intimate level.
Keep on travelling and taking pictures!
Thank-you for following my blog. I was a Confidentail Top Secretary in Architecture but retired early few years back due to ill-health and now learning how to write as I do everything myself. Love the photos. I am not a regular church-goer BUT these buildings are amazing and will stand forever! Breath of fresh air in here. Working evenings on Dream Interpretation Line but jump on here when I can. Great photo of yourself! I have to wear dark bi-foculs due to eyesight now so look like Yoko with my caps. Ha. Ha. Hence my nickname being Yoko sometimes.
I am inspired by ancient structures still standing. Gives one the chance to imagine what life would have been like many hundred years ago without the modern amenities we are so used to.
… And I totally agree with you on that, Ankur. Thanks for dropping by.
A stunning place and beautiful photos. May I say I loved your ‘about me’ entry. With such a full life it is little wonder you have sleepless nights. I am going to enjoy browsing your site that is showing me places that are unknown to me.
